_bm3       Snap All command (Tools menu)

Top

Use this command to ‘snap’ all vertices in the current object to the nearest node in the invisible ‘snap grid’.  The coordinates of all vertices are thereby rounded up or down so that the vertex will fall exactly on a grid intersection.  The snap grid spacing is defined in the Scale dialog box

The Snap-All command results in a warning box:

The Snap-All command is useful for objects like the house, where vertices are supposed to fall on grid intersections --- e.g., to the nearest millimeter.  During editing operations some vertices may move slightly off the grid.  This command restores perfection.

On the other hand, objects that have been generated by rotational symmetry do not respond kindly to this treatment.  They lose their perfect rotational symmetry.  Although this may not be immediately apparent, subsequent editing operations may reveal their imperfections.  You can obtain some interesting effects by experimenting with ‘Pliers Mode’ following the application of ‘Snap All’ to a sphere from the Object Menu.  The Snap-All command should not generally be used on objects that are essentially conical, cylindrical or spherical (e.g. icosahedron, dodecahedron, and derived geodesic objects).
