You can use this command to make a circular face by selecting a single vertex and revolving it about the Y axis.  You can also make an enclosed solid of revolution, like that shown above, by rotating a string of selected vertices about the Y axis.  First create the string of vertices in the X-Y plane, making sure they are selected in order of decreasing Y value.  Then use the command to display the adjacent dialog box for entering the number of steps per revolution.  The radio buttons allow you to choose whether the X axis will emerge from a vertex or the center of an edge or face.  Click the ‘Do It’ button to generate the revolution object.

The command acts on any string of selected vertices.  The vertices usually lie in the X-Y plane, but this need not be so, and they do not need to be coplanar with the Y axis.  You can create the string by holding down the Shift and Ctrl keys while you left mouse click to create a string of selected vertices.  However, you may wish to adjust the position of some vertices, and a separate pass using Shift-left mouse click is usually needed to establish the correct order of selection.  If the vertices are numbered in descending order you can use the Select Mode marquee to select a vertex string, or alternatively the Select All command if all vertices are needed.   The string does not have to proceed relentlessly downwards, but can turn back on itself for all or part of its length.  If vertices are selected in order of increasing Y coordinate all faces will be drawn dull side out.  They can easily be reversed with the Reverse Faces command
