This command is the opposite of the Join Faces command. It makes all selected faces separate from all other faces by giving them their own set of unique vertices. Freed faces do not share vertices with any other faces.
The above screen shot is a graphic illustration of what happens to an icosahedron in which all faces have been selected, freed, and then moved apart along their face normals with the multiply (‘*’) key. The process is entirely reversible.
