First select an edge parallel to the X-Z plane.  The command generates a horizontal N-sided face attached to this edge.  A hinged face is any face joined by one edge to one or more other faces.  It is free to rotate about that edge.

The command displays the adjacent dialog box.  Enter the number of sides for the hinged face.  The equal-sided face is drawn parallel to the X-Z plane, shiny side down, and on the side of the edge furthest from the origin

Hinged faces are created as a prelude to using the Join Hinged Faces command for joining three faces together. The adjacent example illustrates a hinged hexagonal face attached to a horizontal pentagonal face.  The sides of the hexagon are the same length as those of the pentagon.  This is the first step in constructing a soccer ball.
