This command turns the Y Rotation Axis on and off in L3DD’s 3D view. The rotation axis is represented in the 3D view by a spoked polygon drawn in red around each end of the Y axis. The number of spokes in the polygon represents the number of steps specified for the particular rotation axis. A check mark appears next to the menu item when the rotation axis is present.
When a rotation axis is not active, this command invokes the Y Rotation Axis dialog box:
The Y Rotation Axis reproduces rotationally all new vertices and faces when they are created. It also reproduces all movement and deletions of vertices and faces. Selected existing vertices and faces can be reproduced, when required, by using the Apply Now! command at the bottom of the Symmetry menu.
The illustration shows a hexagonal tube created with the help of a 6-fold rotation axis (also known as a “hexad”) and an XZ mirror plane. Just one vertex was entered at X = 50, Y = 50, Z = 0, and this was automatically reproduced by the rotation axis and mirror. Four vertices were then clicked in counterclockwise order, creating a face that was instantly rotated 6 fold.
