_bm3      Export File command (File menu)

Top

Use this command to export the current L3DD project to a CAD (Computer-Aided Design) file in STL or DXF interchange formats (.stl, .dxf).  Both file types are fully 3D, not Plan View.  The resulting 3D file can be read by many 3D CAD programs -- such as AutoCAD® or TurboCAD®, or in 2D form by some 2D graphics programs, such as Paint Shop Pro®.

The Save .DXF File command uses a dialog box similar to the Save-As Dialog Box.

Only the basic geometry of the current L3DD project is exported.  Colors, textures and other details of the current project are not presently transferred.  The faces of the exported object are not joined --- just as they are in L3DD after selecting the whole object and using the Join Faces command in the Tools menu.

This is an image of the Sea Urchin project, exported as a DXF file, and then imported into PaintShop Pro®, which is a strictly two-dimensional program.   Only the top orthogonal view is seen.   If you require other views or elevations, rotate the whole project in L3DD before exporting the DXF file.
