Top

Use this command to toggle Select Mode, indicated by a rectangular cursor with a small cross at the center.  A check mark appears next to the menu item when the cursor is displayed.  Click again on this command, or on the Normal Mode command, to return to Normal Mode.

In Select Mode you click on the screen with the left mouse button and drag a rectangle (also known as a Marquee) to simultaneously select many faces and vertices.  Faces that fall wholly or partly within the rectangle are selected as soon as the button is released.  The selected faces immediately turn yellow.  To unselect them just left-click on an empty part of the screen, or use the Undo command.  Vertices are selected only if their selection handles (or diamonds) are turned on.

With respect to hidden or obscured faces, the default condition is that they too will be selected.  For example, all hidden faces of the far side of a polyhedron will be selected if they fall within, or partly within, the selection rectangle.  However, this can be reversed by deselecting Rear Faces in the Presentation submenu of the View Menu.  Only visible faces will then be selected

Once a selection has been made it can be fine tuned back in Normal Mode (arrow cursor) using the left mouse button with the Shift key held down.  Unselected faces and vertices can be added to the selection, and those already selected can also be selectively deselected.
