This command creates a new vertex at the point of intersection of a line and a plane. The line is defined by first selecting a line (face with only two vertices), edge, or any two vertices. The plane is defined by selecting a face, but conceptually, it extends to infinity in all directions. Thus the point of intersection can occur inside or outside the bounding edges of the face, and within or beyond the points at the ends of the line, edge, or two vertices.
Before using this command you must first select a face and a line using the normal shift-left-mouse-button method. The line can be selected in one of three ways – by selecting an edge handle, a line itself (face with only two vertices), or any two vertices. In the last instance the vertices do not have to belong to the same face, or any face for that matter.
If the line and plane selected do not intersect, a message to that effect is displayed.
The Line-Plane Vertex and Three-Plane Vertex commands are useful for defining the line of intersection between interpenetrating objects. By creating vertices at the appropriate line-plane and three-plane intersections, and by deleting and redefining faces, you can edit out all parts that lie within the volume of interpenetration.
