_bm3      Delete Vertices command (Edit menu)

Top

Use this command to delete just the lone vertices in the current selection (the Delete key deletes all selected faces and vertices).  If multiple vertices and face are selected --- by using Select All, for example --- only the vertices that are unattached to faces will be deleted.  Vertices that belong to faces will not be deleted.  However, if you select a single vertex, and that vertex belongs to one or more faces, a message similar to the following one will appear:

_bm254

The same message will appear if you use the Delete key.  You cannot delete a vertex that is part of one or more faces without also deleting the faces to which it belongs.  Lone vertices, however, can be deleted with impunity.

Vertices deleted in this manner are not actually removed from the vertex array (unless at the end of the array), they are made to plot at Y = almost infinity --- sent to Heaven, so to speak.  In this way the vertex numbers of the remaining vertices are not affected.  Vertices that have been sent to Heaven can be removed completely by using the Renumber Vertices command.  This may cause some of the remaining vertices to be renumbered.
