_bm3      Add or Edit Vertex command (Edit menu)

Top

Use this command to add a new vertex to a L3DD project, edit an existing vertex, to subdivide a selected face, or to place a vertex in the middle of a selected edge.  If you wish to add a new vertex you must ensure that there are no vertices, edges or faces currently selected.  If you wish to edit an existing vertex you must first select the vertex.  In these circumstances the command invokes the following dialog box:

Vertex No.This read-only field displays the vertex number of the new vertex if adding a new vertex, or the vertex number of a selected vertex if editing an existing vertex.

X, Y and ZIf adding a new vertex, these fields will be set to zero. Otherwise they display the coordinates of an existing selected vertex in 3D units.  Enter new XYZ coordinates for a new vertex, or edit the displayed coordinates for an existing vertex.

If you inadvertently edit a vertex instead of entering a new vertex (which is quite easy to do), just use the Undo command.

Face Subdivision:   If you select a face before using this command the face will immediately be subdivided into three or more triangular faces that share a common central vertex.  The dialog box does not appear.  To make these faces more visible, the central vertex is raised above the shiny side of the original face.  This is equivalent to using the Star Maker command on a single face, with the normal movement and standard subdivision options selected.  The command also works if more than one face or the whole object is selected.

Edge Bisection: If you first select an edge before using this command, an unconnected (lone) vertex will be created in the middle of the edge.  This vertex coincides with the selected edge handle.
