_bm3      Add or Edit Face command (Edit menu)

Top

Although a new face is usually created by selecting vertices with the mouse, you can use this command to add a new face to a L3DD project, to edit an existing face, or to view the vertex numbers making up a face.  The component and décor numbers associated with a face can also be viewed and edited.  A face is defined by entering its vertex numbers in anticlockwise order -- the vertices must already exist.  To edit an existing face you first select the face in the 3D view.  This command invokes the following dialog box:

Face No.   A read-only field showing the face number the new face will assume, or the number of the selected existing face being edited.

Component   The number of the component to which the face is assigned -- zero if no assignment.  The correspondence between component numbers and names can be seen in the Data View

.

Décor   A number that specifies the faces color if less than 17,000,000, or texture if 17,000,000 or more.  If zero is entered, the face defaults to the current object color.

Vertices   Enter the vertex numbers of all vertices making up the face in counter- clockwise order.  Up to 15 vertices can be entered --  leave zeros in all remaining empty fields.  If the vertices are entered in clockwise order the face will appear with the dull side out.  This can be changed later with the Reverse Face command.

This command is limited to faces with 15 or less vertices -- faces with more than this number of vertices can be created or edited by several other means (e.g., anticlockwise vertex selection and the Revolution Object command).  The command will reject attempts to edit faces with more than 15 vertices.

Faces with just two vertices are shown as lines.  When editing faces with this command, the number of vertices may be reduced to a minimum of two, or increased to a maximum of 15.  L3DD automatically handles any changes to the number of rows required in the face array.
