A Chalice is easy to construct with the help of L3DD’s Y rotation axis.
| 1. | Click on the New button to clear the decks for the new project. |
| 2. | Click on the Front Center button to show the front orthogonal view. |
| 3. | While holding the Ctrl key down, left-click with the mouse in the top right quadrant to create 10 or so points (lone vertices) outlining a half-profile of a chalice resting on the groundplane. |
| 4. | You can easily adjust points by using the pointing hand cursor in Hand Mode. |
| 5. | Click on the Y Rotation Axis button to obtain the Y Rotation Axis Dialog Box |
| 6. | Specify 32-steps making one 360° rotation (32-fold axis of rotation). |
| 7. | Click on the Select All button to select all the points at once. |
| 8. | Click on the Apply Symmetry button to instantly create all vertices for the chalice. |
| 9. | Starting at the top right vertex (in the X-Y plane), click on 5 vertices in anticlockwise order (the first vertex must be repeated) of the first rectangular face. 32 faces are instantly created going around the chalice. |
| 10. | Repeat for the next layer of faces, and the next, until the chalice is completed. |
| 11. | Worried about the leak? Switch to the Top View, zoom in with the mouse wheel, and plug the hole by clicking on all 32 vertices in clockwise order. |
| 12. | Try altering the 3D shape of the chalice by selecting individual vertices or faces and moving them with the arrow keys or mouse. Keep the Y rotation axis on. |
| 13. | An even easier way of constructing a chalice is to use the Revolution Solid command after Step 7. This generates an undrinkable chalice with the ends capped by round faces. |
