If I can get my hands on a multi-axis computer controlled router without spending a fortune, I have high hopes of adding to L3DD the ability to drive of such a beast. With such equipment, the faces of a L3DD object can be cut from a panel with perfect precision. Furthermore, it becomes a fairly trivial exercise to automatically machine the dovetails required to hold faces together without glue. L3DD objects could become giant three-dimensional jigsaw puzzles!
Unfortunately, computer-controlled multi-axis cutting equipment does not come cheaply, although it is not beyond the capabilities of a determined enthusiast to build such equipment in a garage. CNC of California advertises a kit for building a 3-axis router table. However, two additional degrees of freedom would need to be built in to a router capable of cutting L3DD’s objects.
